Media Release – Arrival delayed
Solo rower Michelle Lee’s voyage back to Australia has slowed with strong outgoing tides preventing her from arriving in Cairns tomorrow as predicted earlier.
Michelle will have to stagger her journey through the Great Barrier Reef for a couple of days to work with the tides making her earliest possible arrival around lunch time Wednesday April 5.
Daily media alerts will be issued updating her progress and estimated arrival.
Michelle has acheived, on her previous journey, rowing 5000km solo on the Atlantic Ocean. The 68-day adventure earned her the title of Australian Geographic Adventurer of the Year in 2019.

Super human effort. Good luck with the last bit. Having spent more than 30 years boating and diving on the GBR we know it would be tricky in your vessel to get through the reef. We crossed the Atlantic in 2020 and plan for the Pacific crossing for 2024-25 – obviously taking our time. Our 56ft sailing yacht has and will offer a hopefully less strenuous ride.
